Mihajlovic: Connecting and openness to the region is a priority of Serbia, Open Balkans for new investments and development

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, Prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, PhD, said that the Open Balkans initiative is a step further in connecting the region, by creating economic conditions that ensure the free flow of people, goods and capital.

She said that at the opening of the conference "Open Balkans - the path to stabilization, cooperation and prosperity of the region" in the House of the National Assembly.

"I believe that such conferences represent support for the further development of the initiative and the improvement of regional cooperation." I also believe that we share the same ambitions and that we want a democratic, open region, because that is a condition for economic progress. The Open Balkans is good for Serbia, Albania and Northern Macedonia, but also for all other countries in the region that want to be part of this initiative, which was launched with the aim of removing physical barriers, first of all I mean borders, but also non-physical, and in order to ensure faster economic growth of all countries and improvement of the living standard of all citizens, "said Mihajlovic.

She said all three countries must work to improve living standards and prevent the outflow of population.

"We have to do everything to improve living conditions so that people stay here to live. Statistics show that more than a hundred thousand people left our countries in just one year, and we must connect and do everything we can to prevent that. The Congress of Serbian-American Friendship, of which I am one of the founders, organized a conference and we want to show that other countries in the region are welcome and that we are an open, democratic society that creates better living conditions and a higher standard for all citizens. "The Open Balkans initiative, launched by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, has taken another step further in connecting the region, creating an economic zone in which most obstacles to the free movement of goods, services and people will be removed," Mihajlovic said.

She said that the essence of the initiative is to provide faster economic progress and improve the living standard of citizens, which is achievable only by connecting all countries.
