Mihajlovic: Security of the electric power system is not possible without RES
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, phD, said that increasing the capacity for energy production from RES is the only way to ensure a secure and self-sufficient electricity system, while protecting the environment.
"Currently, the share of production from RES in our energy mix, not counting large HPPs, is very low, below five percent, but given our potentials and investor interest, in the coming years that percentage will be significantly higher and that is our goal. We were guided by that when we passed a new legislative framework, especially the Law on the Use of RES, the first of its kind in Serbia. The problem is that not enough has been invested in the high-voltage network in the last 10 years, and that is why there are restrictions for connecting new capacities to the network, "she said as a guest on Happy Television.
"The essence is that, as President Aleksandar Vucic said, Serbia has the right of pre-emption, because our potentials are being used. That is why strategic partnerships between private investors and EPS are important. We should all think together what the future is - are these 40-year-old TPPs or will we build new capacities? Kostolac B3 is still under construction and it is certain that it will not be finished by 2024, and some people still think that new thermal power plants should be built. Citizens want to have enough electricity and clean air, and our task is to create those conditions. The only way is new capacities, which use renewable sources for energy production, "she said.
