Mihajlovic: Serbia is a regional leader in attracting investments, cooperation with companies from the USA in the field of energy

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, PhD, talked in Bucharest with Pamela Ward, US Regional Representative for Southeast Europe, and Michael Lally, Head of the US Trade Mission to the EU, on economic relations between the two countries, energy infrastructure development, new US investments and improvement of the business environment in Serbia.

During a meeting in Bucharest, where she is participating in a roundtable on energy security organized by the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC), Mihajlovic said that thanks to political stability, Serbia is a regional leader when it comes to foreign direct investment.

The projects we are implementing together with American companies in the field of transport infrastructure show that we need to improve cooperation in all areas, since Serbia is recognized as a favorable destination for investment and we want to be leaders in the energy sector in the region and attract more American companies. . Serbia is the central state of the region, a leader in economic growth, which pursues a policy of peace, stability, cooperation and connections. Last year, we started the energy transition, adopted a new, modern legislative framework, including the first special Law on the Use of RES, and started drafting strategic documents that will determine the goals and dynamics of the decarbonisation process. We have also prepared an investment plan worth more than 35 billion euros, which will support this process with concrete projects. We are facing large investments in the RES sector and large projects such as RHE "Djerdap 3" and RHE "Bistrica", where the door is open for US companies, given that the United States is a leader in investment and development in RES , as well as in modular nuclear power plants ", said Mihajlovic.

During the meeting, they discussed the signing of an intergovernmental cooperation agreement that would improve business cooperation and create conditions for additional investments of American companies in Serbia.

"We are aware of the importance of an agreement that would improve economic relations. There is interest from our companies when it comes to investing in the field of energy, especially in RES, as well as about the possibilities for the development of modular nuclear power plants, because our companies are world leaders in this field. We will make additional efforts to connect the business community and to see all the investment opportunities in Serbia. "Serbia's role in preserving regional energy security is important, and we see you as an important partner," Lally said.
