Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedović Handanović, met today with a delegation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), led by JICA Director for Europe Takahiro Goto, to discuss the construction of the Bistrica pumped-storage hydropower plant (PSHPP Bistrica).

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović Handanović announced today that Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) has submitted a request to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury seeking approval to continue its operations while talks are ongoing to enable the successful completion of the agreed transaction between Russia’s Gazprom Neft and Hungary’s MOL.

At today’s session of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Draft Strategy for the Management of Mineral and Other Geological Resources of the Republic of Serbia until 2040, with projections until 2050, was adopted. The document establishes a long-term framework for the responsible management of mineral resources and for strengthening the role of the state in planning, supervision, and development of the mining and geological sector, in the interest of citizens and the sustainable development of local communities.

The United States Department of the Treasury has, for the fifth time, postponed the imposition of sanctions on Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) for a further 30 days.

At the latest session of the Board of Directors of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS), during which Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović Handanović and Chairman of the Management Board of Gazprom Neft Alexander Dyukov addressed the Board, Alexey Urusov was elected as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of NIS, and Dragutin Matanović was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board. This is the first time that a Vice Chairman, who is also a member of the Board of Directors, has been appointed by the Government of the Republic of Serbia. Additionally, the process of selecting two independent members of the Board of Directors is currently underway, in order to meet the requirements of the OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury) concerning the company’s governance.
