Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović spoke today with US Ambassador to the Republic of Serbia Christopher Hill about the energy cooperation between the two countries and about potential new investments in this sector.
"Serbia and the USA have significantly improved their economic cooperation in recent years, and American companies are now among the largest foreign investors in our country. The process of energy transition during which Serbia will be working on increasing its generation capacities, increasing the share of RES in the energy mix and diversifying energy supply, is also an opportunity to raise our energy cooperation to a higher level. In addition to the investments being implemented by the government, by improving the legal framework, we also want to stimulate the private sector to invest more in renewable energy sources (RES), which will result in greater security of supply, attracting new investments, as well as in better environmental protection," said Djedović.
She added that by adopting the Energy Infrastructure and Energy Efficiency Measures Development Plant, together with the adopted amendments to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources and strategic documents whose drafting is in the final stage, Serbia is setting clear goals and priorities for the development of the energy sector.
"By creating a stable legal framework for new investments, especially in the field of RES, we aim to attract the investors who can contribute with their experience and technologies to making the Serbian energy sector stronger. Simultaneously, we are also developing the Energy Sector Development Strategy which we expect to be submitted to public consultation in the fall," Djedović added.
Ambassador Hill commended Serbia's efforts and evident results achieved by strengthening the energy sector and having in mind the risks resulting from the energy crisis and added that American companies are interested in investing in technologically advanced energy capacities in Serbia.
