Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy for Geology and Mining, Ivan Janković, emphasized that the adoption of the Strategy for the Management of Mineral and Other Geological Resources of the Republic of Serbia 2025–2040, with projections until 2050, is expected in the near future.
“Serbia will soon have its first strategy that will systematically address the management of mineral resources. A public consultation was conducted, during which comments of the professional community were taken into account, with the aim of defining the long-term development direction of the mining sector in Serbia. The Strategy provides guidelines for the application of the highest environmental protection standards, in line with regulations and practices in the European Union, while also recognizing the need to safeguard Serbia’s interests by ensuring that critical mineral raw materials are extracted and processed domestically, alongside the development of broader value chains and economic activities,” Janković stated.
He underlined Serbia’s commitment to the transition toward clean energy sources, noting that there is significant potential for cooperation and the exchange of experience with Germany in this process.
During the meeting, it was highlighted that Saxony and Serbia share a long and significant tradition in the field of mining, and that meetings between the two delegations will continue, as exemplified by the official visit of the Serbian delegation to this German federal state in May of this year. Participants particularly emphasized the potential for enhancing cooperation through the exchange of knowledge and experience between scientific and educational institutions in the field of mining.
The meeting was attended by Ralph Weidner from the Saxon Department of Mining, Omar Scharifi from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany, as well as representatives of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Serbia and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
