"This is something we have already done in the electricity sector, where we have separate companies responsible for transmission of electricity, production, and distribution. We are now implementing in the gas sector. This is a reform process that will primarily contribute to making the sector more organized, and will also ensure greater security in the future regarding the construction of new gas pipelines and gas supply," Djedović Handanović said after the Government session at which a package of energy regulations was discussed.
She added that the Government also discussed adopting laws on oil, gas, and compulsory stocks, along with the procurement of additional quantities of gasoline and diesel.
"I would like to remind you that in just the past two and a half years, we have increased the stocks of euro-diesel only by 70,600 tons. We have created conditions to be even more secure in the event of unforeseen circumstances, while continuing with 38,000 tons of gasoline and an additional 66,000 tons of diesel," said Djedović Handanović.
She also stated that the filling of the tanks in Smederevo is expected to begin soon, as the facility is awaiting its operating permit.
"Just to clarify regarding gas, this is not related to oil or the Russian arrangement. It is related to aligning our legal framework in the gas sector, primarily with European Union standards, all with the aim of ensuring greater security and guaranteeing that our country has sufficient energy resources, especially gas," the Minister said.
She stated that Serbia's goal is to diversify its gas sources.
"That is why we are building new gas interconnections with North Macedonia and Romania, in addition to the one we have already constructed with Bulgaria, so that in the future we will have multiple sources and be able to negotiate with several parties to secure the best possible conditions for our country," Djedović Handanović concluded.
